This is the moment police officers dig through rubble with their bare hands to find a war veteran pensioner who was buried under a collapsed wall.

Jiang Dasen, 89, was walking next to his home when the dilapidated house next door suddenly rumbled and a concrete wall crushed him from above on the afternoon of 8th July.

Footage from the county of Songyang in China’s eastern Zhejiang Province shows arriving officers blindly digging away at a pile of rubble after Jiang’s neighbours pointed to the ground and claimed the pensioner was underneath.

The uniformed officers were handed metal bowls and plastic basins to use as tools, while one picked up a wooden plank and begins digging with it too, reports said.

The video shows one of the policeman holding a shovel as Jiang finally re-emerges from under the pile of powdered concrete and wood.

He was handed over to paramedics and taken to Songyang County People’s Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, Jiang is being kept in the hospital’s intensive care unit for further treatment, but he is not believed to be in any life-threatening condition.

Jiang, a veteran of the Korean War, lives with his wife.

The home next door was unoccupied and collapsed due to neglect, the authorities said.

It is unclear whether the police plan to track down the homeowner.
