This is the moment a cop smashes a car window to rescue a sobbing three-year-old girl who had been locked inside on a hot day while her parents allegedly walked around a nearby shopping centre.

The incident was filmed at the Las Palmas shopping centre in the city of Mexicali in the north-western Mexican state of Baja California, and the footage was later widely shared on social media.

According to onlookers, the three-year-old girl was locked inside the car on a hot day for over an hour and she started to scream.

A police officer on the scene saw the crying tot in the back of the car and decided to break a window.

In the footage, the chubby cop is seen smashing the glass before unlocking the back door.

As he opens the door, the scared tot is heard sobbing and he scoops her in his arms as the girl asks for her “mama”.

Eyewitnesses said the parents left the three-year-old alone in the car while they went shopping in the commercial centre.

According to reports, the local authorities have taken the girl into care as they carry out an investigation into the allegations against the parents.
