This is the policeman mowed down by a speeding driver a week before he was due to retire moments after the lunatic motorist ploughed into a pedestrian as seen in this footage.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the district of Pursaklar in the northern Turkish province of Ankara and shows the speeding driver ploughing into a pedestrian who desperately tries to sprint out of the way.

According to local media, the unnamed pedestrian was rushed to hospital and is now said to be in a stable condition.

Two kilometres further along the road, the motorist reportedly ignored a police traffic stop and ran over 55-year-old police officer Mevlut Metin.

Eyewitnesses said that the cop was thrown high into the air and suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver fled the scene and was reportedly stopped and detained by police soon afterwards.

The badly-injured cop was rushed to the Pursaklar State Hospital, however doctors could do nothing to save him and the 55-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

According to local media, the officer was one week away from retiring from the police force.

The alleged killer is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
