This is the moment sleeping passengers on a bus are tossed violently around the coach as their driver veers off the road and into a ditch filled with water.

Security camera footage from the bus in the county of Baoying in East China’s Jiangsu Province shows the driver surnamed Chen, 47, unable to stop the crowded bus before it hits the bottom of the channel.

The accident happened on 10th June as the bus carrying 15 passengers travelled to Baoying from the nearby town of Xi’anfeng.

A number of the passengers were said to be asleep at the time when the vehicle suddenly swerved off the road and crashed down the ditch at roughly 3:20pm local time.

Chen, who was not injured, can be seen desperately trying to steady the bus as his passengers are tossed around the cabin due to having not been wearing seat belts.

Authorities said 12 of the 15 passengers were injured and are receiving treatment at Baoying County People’s Hospital.

Chen claims he swerved to avoid another vehicle on the road, but authorities are still investigating.

No arrests have been made at this time.
