A locked-down man turned the apartment block across from him into an outdoor cinema showing a classic Charlie Chaplin film to entertain his neighbours.

The scene was recorded in the city of Kazan in the western Russian Republic of Tatarstan after local resident Dmitry Polosin decided to cheer up his neighbours.

In the video, a scene from the 1936 silent film ‘Modern Times’ can be seen being projected onto the side of a block of flats.

Polosin said a silent film was chosen so as not to disturb people with loud sounds and he wrote on social media: “I started today showing the good old stuff…having fun myself and I hope people will enjoy it too.”

He said that he plans to project more films but for no more than 15 minutes at a time.

Speaking to CEN, Polosin said he never expected the video to be reported in local media and said: “I didn’t think anybody more than my neighbours would be the ones talking about it. People liked it, I did not have a negative comment from anyone.”

He says his next plan is to revive local monuments and project the process onto the walls as well.

Modern Times was written and directed by Chaplin and sees his iconic Little Tramp character struggling to survive in the industrialised world. The film was the last time Chaplin portrayed the Little Tramp character.
