Pic shows: German car driver who blindly followed the orders of his sat nav without questioning where he was going ended up stuck in the snow. By Koen Berghuis A driver blindly following his sat nav’s instructions ended up stuck on a ski slope. The German motorist made the blunder in Krimml, a town in the Pinzgau region of Austria. He was on his way to his hotel in the higher part of the town, but his satnav guided him over an alpine walking path instead of roads. Krimml’s fire and rescue service got an unusual phone call at around 9.30pm that a car was stranded in the snow near a cable car station on the ski slopes. Fire brigade commander Robert Mair said it took 13 firefighters to pull the stranded car from the snow with a cable winch. The operation took about an hour and a half. Mr Mair added: "He went on despite a sign banning vehicles." Local media reported that the unnamed German driver was not the first to make that type of mistake. Just over a month ago, a 72-year-old German tourist in Zell am See was misled by his sat nav into driving onto a steep mountain slope. It took a speciality ski patrol to bring the driver and his three passengers back into the valley. The local fire brigade of Zell am See later managed to recover the car. (ends)

CCTV video widely shared in China that did not say where in the country it happened shows the gatekeeper spraying water from the hose when a lorry comes hurtling down the slope. The man spots the lorry and tries running away in order to avoid it. However, the crane driver also veers his vehicle to the right in the man’s direction. The gatekeeper who has dropped his hose then ducks behind a wall covered in Chinese writing, but the out-of-control lorry crashes right through the concrete pillar, sending the pieces of rubble and debris falling on top of him. The video shows the victim being buried in pieces of the broken wall while the lorry also wipes out a tree, causing it to fall over onto the nearby road. Meanwhile, a second pedestrian appears to escape unharmed. Reports did not say whether the gatekeeper suffered any serious injuries, and it is unclear whether police are currently investigating the accident that notched up half a million views on social media. Many commentators were questioning why the gatekeeper appeared to run the wrong way for cover. ‘Woyouyao Nichimao’ said: "He thought he’d be safe hiding behind the wall." ‘Daysbydays’ added: "Any normal person would take cover behind a wall."
