The 50-year-old man – from Munich, Germany – was shocked when he realised that the ticket he’d been carrying around since 8th November was a winner.

He only discovered its value of EUR 1.2 million (GBP 1 million) when he went to a shop to place another Eurojackpot bet.

The lucky winner said in a statement obtained by Newsflash on 31st January: “I always play with high jackpots.

“I had a bit of time before the bus came and the jackpot is so high right now.

“That’s why I quickly handed in another game order next door at the acceptance point.

“I also had my old game receipt from November checked and was informed that I had won a central prize of over EUR 2,500 [GBP 2,209].

“At home I checked the exact odds and realised the million-dollar win. Crazy!”

When asked how he plans to spend the money, the 50-year-old man answered: “I have no idea, I have to let everything sink in first.”

LOTTO Bayern said: “So that no prize can be lost or forgotten, the LOTTO Bayern customer card is available free of charge in every Bavarian LOTTO acceptance point.

“If game orders are submitted with it, winnings are automatically transferred to the deposited account.”
