A man from the USA who headed out to a local convenience store to satisfy his chicken cravings has hit the jackpot after he ended up purchasing several lottery tickets.
The lucky winner, identified only by the nickname ‘Buzzsaw’ from the community of Elkridge, in Howard County, Maryland State, USA, was in for a big surprise after he went out to buy dinner on Monday, 6th February.
Buzzsaw, who considers himself a frequent player, claimed that at first, he had no intention of playing the Lottery’s Multi-Match, even though he reportedly buys tickets for eight out of 10 drawings each Monday and Thursday.
But when he got some chicken cravings that evening, he reportedly headed to Royal Farms #054 at 8268 Lark Brown Drive and got four Multi-Match games in addition to a box of chicken, as he had a few extra dollars in his pocket.
He had picked a combination of six numbers for the first two games, while choosing the quick-pick option for the remaining two games.
Buzzsaw reportedly paid USD 2 (GBP 1.65) for each, and had 12 shots at hitting the jackpot as a single game in Multi-Match includes three sets of six numbers, with two of them automatically being quick picks.
After he finished his dinner and headed to bed, he claimed he had trouble dozing off after which he decided to check the tickets and realised that he had just won USD 750,000 (GBP 617,000).
Buzzsaw said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “It was all about the chicken. I usually don’t wake up at night.”
But when he checked the tickets he realised: “Darn, that’s all six. I never won this kind of money before in my life.”
The Lottery stated that he won on the second of the two quick-pick combinations where he chose his own numbers.
He said: “I had nothing to do with it.”
Buzzsaw revealed that he will celebrate his grand win by first travelling to the mountains in the western part of the state, and then buying a new house for him and his son.
He said he will continue playing and added: “Yeah! Heavens to Betsy, yes! I’m not giving up!”
The convenience store where the lucky man purchased the ticket will receive a USD 1,000 (GBP 823) bonus for selling a jackpot-winning ticket.
Maryland Lottery said: “This is the first Multi-Match jackpot win of 2023. The game’s jackpot was hit six times in 2022 and five times in 2021.”
