This is the moment a motorist in China shows his blind stupidity as he drives along a motorway with his bonnet up.

The shocking video – recorded by another driver – shows how the only way he could see the road ahead would have been through a narrow gap at the bottom of his windscreen.

In the footage – recorded in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China by a netizen named only as Mr Sha – the white car seems to be signalling that it intends to turn off the motorway.

But Mr Sha told his followers on Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok – that he had been following the car for 10 minutes before he filmed it.

Online commentators point out that it would be difficult to stop as there was no proper hard shoulder but it was equally dangerous to carry on.

They said it appeared that the driver had therefore decided to carry on to the junction where he could leave the main road and wait for a repair truck to properly fix the vehicle.

It was not revealed whether police were investigating the incident that happened on the Liuhe service section of Changshen Expressway.
