A knife-wielding maniac who stabbed his estranged girlfriend to death and then stabbed her mum too when she tried to intervene was so violent that when police arrested him they found his car covered in blood.

Bruno Henrique Vasconcelos de Oliveira is suspected of stabbing his ex, 22-year-old Silvia Dayane Gomes, and her mother, 44-year-old Silvana Xavier da Silva Gomes.

The attack happened at the family home in a rural area of the municipality of Sao Jose do Rio Preto, in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, on the afternoon of 15th September. Oliveira was arrested two days later still driving the bloodstained car.

According to police and witnesses, Bruno went to his ex-girlfriend’s house armed with a knife, where he forced his way in and started an argument about the fact that he was not prepared to let her end the relationship.

According to local media, he then stabbed his ex in the abdomen, the thorax and the neck. Her mother came to her daughter’s defence and was stabbed twice in the neck.

The police told local media: “He said that when they started to push and shove, he decided to pull out the knife and stab her.

“Her mother came in to try to separate them and ended up being stabbed as well.

“He fled, he said he went home, he thought about committing suicide, he returned to his boss’ business to explain what was happening and that was where the police cars found him.”

Police said the man’s car was still covered in blood, along with the bloodied knife.

Silvana died at the scene. Silvia was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She underwent surgery, but died in the early hours of 16th September.
