Car Drivers Leap From Their Cars And Run To Safety After Mountainside Collapses Across Road

This is the moment a motorist realises the traffic jams will last a while after a mountainside collapses across a busy road.

Heavy rains have caused flooding in many areas and also landslides as rain logged earth and rock suddenly gives way under the increased weight, collapsing onto roads and buildings.

The latest incident recorded here by a driver occurred on the provincial highway S202 Yunli Road K170+100 (from Longjiao to Wucao direction, small place name: Mawangmiao) in the county of Yunyang in the northeast of Chongqing Municipality.

The cars were travelling on the road in the early morning when the camera footage from one of the drivers captured the moment an entire hillside suddenly starts moving and spreads across the road.

Seconds later a driver is seen dashing back down the road before being followed by other people leaving in a panic to escape further landslides.

According to emergency services, one motorcyclist was knocked off his vehicle and two cars were buried, but everybody was safely removed and nobody was hurt.

Emergency workers are currently on the scene and estimate it will take up to five days to clear the debris, with traffic being diverted over alternative routes.
