This Spanish cabbie has been stabbed 10 times to death in his car by a thug who wanted to steal his coin box.
Jose Luis Espada Morales, 59, who lived in Alcala de Henares, near Madrid, died early on Tuesday morning after being stabbed at least ten times in the radio taxi he was working in.
He had reportedly been called to a client in the Lianchi area at around 00:35 and the driver of a car later found the taxi blocking the street. The unnamed driver of the car went up to the taxi and saw the injured driver before calling the emergency services.
Paramedics arrived on the scene but could only confirm the taxi driver’s death.
Local media report he was stabbed in the neck, cutting his aorta which led to his death. Morales also suffered cuts to his face, back, chest and hands after reportedly struggling with his aggressor.
The National Police have launched an investigation and concluded that the robbery of the coin box was the motive for the crime.
Police have checked the area and are looking for the CCTV cameras of the shops nearby.
The officers are also checking the taxi’s GPS in order to find more information about the driver’s final trip and have collected fingerprints from inside the car.
Investigators reportedly found a knife left abandoned close to the scene which may have been the murder weapon.
The president of the Association of Taxi of Alcala de Henares, Eloy Lozano, told local media that “it is the first time it has happened, that is why we are shocked”.
The victim’s friend Maria Jesus Monzoni, sent a message on Facebook saying: “Dear Pepe, today a heartless killed you when working in the taxi. Good trip my friend, thanks for everything”,
The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
