These are the stunning artworks made by Russian embroiderer Galissa with beads from old junk jewellery.

One piece shows how the 30-year-old made an incredible likeness of Wednesday – played by Christina Ricci – from the Addams Family movies.

Another shows her uncanny depiction of Macaulay Culkin playing Kevin McCallister in an iconic pose from the Home Alone films.

In an exclusive interview with Newsflash, Galissa revealed: “I’m a self-taught embroiderer. My embroidery journey started with threads and patches, then I had a quick run with pins made out of threads until I discovered for myself the whole world of beads.

“Now I’m mostly specialised in embroidered portraits of people or characters who inspire me. Embroidery is my passion and full-time job.”

Video footage of her at work shows how she builds up lifelike images from discarded pieces of old costume jewellery.

Galissa’s embroidery works are clearly an online hit, as she now boasts a cool 69,800 followers on Instagram.

She told Newsflash about her stunning creations, revealing: “I have my own tiny studio in my apartment and it’s a perfect place to create something beautiful.

“I don’t work according to a schedule, I work any moment I have free time and working spirit. I record videos right there during the embroidery process.

“The main material I use in my works is beads, I have about 200 types and colours of them which I keep organised in a strict order. This helps me to choose right colours I want to use in my project.

“When it comes to the background of a piece, I usually use velvet fabric or something shiny.

“I like the idea of repurposing so I never buy brand-new fabric and prefer thrifting to turn used clothing into the background for my works.

“Sometimes I use pieces of old and broken jewellery that me and my family have been collecting for years. Back then no one knew why we had been doing this, but now look how good it fits into my works!”

Galissa, referring to one of her works, revealed: “The most awesome thing about it is that at least half of those details are older than me!”

On how long it takes to create a single piece, she said: “It’s always different and depends on the difficulty of a particular piece. I would say about 17 to 19 hours on average.

“Of course that doesn’t mean it only takes a couple of days to finish one project. I spend lots of time on things like preparation, filming the process, choosing the right materials, et cetera.

“So when I say I spend 17 hours on a piece, this implies it took me a week or more.”

On why she chooses to embroider likenesses of film characters, Galissa told Newsflash: “I’m obsessed with movies and some characters are really inspirational for me.

“When I look at the screen and I see a character in all their glory, I immediately feel that I need to embroider them and this idea keeps me motivated and leaves me only when I’m done with the piece.

“I have a whole list of characters whom I’d like to depict in beads and this list keeps increasing.”

Galissa added: “I put my heart and soul into every project I make. It’s great my art feeds me, but most importantly, it gives me satisfaction.

“Some people consider me talented, but I can’t agree. I wasn’t born with this talent, I practised a lot and what you see now is the result of four years of practising.

“I try to improve my embroidery skills, because I know, I can be better at this.”
