The body of a businessman was found in the elevator well of his own building after falling 18 floors in a death deemed suspicious by police.

The entrepreneur and father, 42-year-old Guillermo Javier Vazquez, was found in the ‘Aymara’ tower building he owned in the city of Posadas, in the north-eastern Argentine province of Misiones.

According to national newspaper Infobae, a construction worker turned up to work at 6.20 am and found Vazquez’s body in the elevator well and called police.

According to police sources, Vazquez fell from the 18th floor, a height of 54 metres (177 feet), down the unfinished elevator opening.

The police told Infobae that they are treating the case as a “suspicious death,” and they are investigating the circumstances to see if anybody else might have been involved.

According to the Chief of the Scientific Police, Commissioner General Jose Rodríguez Handorf: “The victim is the owner of the building. The man was living alone here on the top floor. The building is under construction, and not inhabited. He was residing in the place as the owner.”

Commenting about the elevator system, Handorf added: “There are three openings, one worked and it is the one normally occupied by employees and site managers, an elevator in the middle also worked, and another had a hollow opening under construction.”

According to Infobae, Vazquez has two children and his current partner is seven months pregnant with his third child.

The construction of the Aymara Tower was reportedly his dream development and began building in 2014.

The building has 127 apartments over 21 floors and was close to finishing.
