This footage shows a brave passenger shooting at three armed thieves after disarming one of them when they targeted a public bus in Mexico City.

The incident was filmed by the on-board CCTV cameras in the central Mexican capital Mexico City and the two videos were later shared on Facebook where one camera angle has been viewed 483,000 times and the other 364,000.

In the footage, three gunmen are seen jumping to their feet as everything appears to be quiet on the moving bus.

One suspect tells the driver to “be cool” while a fracas breaks out near the back of the bus.

One thief starts to take the belongings of the passengers near the front before a gun goes off at the back.

An accomplice tells the driver to “open the door” before a brave passenger in a brown leather jacket manages to beat the three of them back and, accompanied by two other men who rush to his aid, disarming one of them.

The have-a-go heroes then manage to force the thieves off the bus and the heavyset man in the brown jacket fires several shots as they flee.

The local authorities have yet to confirm whether they are investigating the incident.

According to the group Mexico Evalua, thefts on Mexican buses have increased by 58 percent between 2016 and 2018.

The National Survey on Victimisation and Perception of Public Security (ENVIPE) said that around 300,000 people have stopped using buses out of fear for their own safety.
