A British man who apparently fell and cut his bum open on glass in the bathroom of his Cambodia hotel room has died in hospital.

David Karim Andrew Nisbet, 41, died at the Khema Clinic in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, at 10:30 pm on Tuesday, 29th June.

He was taken to the clinic from the Prandara Guesthouse, where he had been renting a room for a week, at 4 pm the previous day. He had been suffering from severe blood loss.

Guesthouse manager Phim Sophea, 33, had received a call from a member of staff to inform him that the guest had fallen in his bathroom.

It was a Swiss male guest who raised the alarm with the staff at the hotel when he heard a loud noise coming from the Nisbet’s room.

The manager went to the room, where he found Nisbet lying on the floor “with a wound in the buttocks” amid broken glass and bloodstains.

He called the clinic, who sent an ambulance to the guesthouse. Female doctor Chheang Channoeun, 30, noted that the man had a cut on both buttocks and was bleeding heavily.

She gave him medicine and his wounds were sealed with 17 stitches. However, his condition continued to worsen until he died at the clinic the following night.

It was reported that the Bradford-born man’s urine tested positive for morphine. However, it is not clear if the morphine was administered by medical staff following the incident.
