A British tourist has been sentenced to 40 days of community service for punching his girlfriend at the hotel where they were staying on the popular resort island of Majorca.

The tourist, identified by the Civil Guard as Jason John B., 47, assaulted his girlfriend, identified by the initials K. A. G., 38, who is also British, at an unnamed hotel in the resort of Magaluf in the western Majorcan municipality of Calvia situated in the eastern Spanish region of the Balearic Islands.

The unnamed man admitted to the offence in court in the island’s capital Palma and accepted the sentence, according to local newspaper ‘Diario de Mallorca’.

In addition to the community service, the British tourist has reportedly been issued with a restraining order to not approach or communicate with the victim for a period of eight months.

According to local media, the incident took place in the early hours of 19th August at the hotel where they were both staying.

The defendant had gone to an all-night party in Magaluf where he had been drinking heavily before returning to the hotel to sleep, according to reports.

When his girlfriend woke him up, the young tourist reacted angrily and lashed out, reportedly punching her hard in the face.

According to local media, the victim showed clear signs of violence when she went to a nearby police station to report her boyfriend, sporting a large bruise around her eye and cheekbone.

The Civil Guard investigated the case and the British tourist was quickly brought before a judge in Palma de Majorca.
