Breaking: Collapsing Motorway Viaduct Crushes Cars Below

This footage filmed today (Thursday) shows a Chinese motorway bridge collapsing and crushing several cars as they pass underneath it.

Footage from the city of Wuxi in East China’s Jiangsu Province shows firefighters sprinting towards the site as rescue operations continue underneath the Xigang Road section of China National Highway 312.

Dashcam footage from nearby cars captured the moment of the collapse at just past 6pm local time today (10th October) as vehicles including lorries were travelling on the viaduct.

The section above the Xigang Road junction collapses as numerous vehicles are driving through the crossroads, pinning and crushing the cars underneath it, the video shows.

Footage taken by motorists who escaped the accident reveals flattened cars, though it was still unclear at the time of writing whether there were any casualties.

Drivers who braked just seconds before entering the collapsed bridge section also shot videos of themselves looking over the edge.

According to Chinese state media, three cars were pinned underneath the collapsed viaduct, which is still being cleared away with the help of mobile cranes and excavators.

Several dozen firefighters and paramedics are understood to be at the scene, according to witness accounts on social media.

However, officials have yet to announce whether any were injured or killed in the accident.
