A horrified farm worker ran over his baby daughter after his wife put the toddler under the family car to keep her out of the sun while she slept.

Tragic Elif Ekinci, 2, had gone with her dad Necip Ekinci and her mother as they worked in fields in Ankara’s Beypazari district, Turkey.

Her mother had managed to persuade the child to go to sleep and to keep her out of the sun, she placed her under the vehicle in the shade.

But her unsuspecting father later started up the vehicle and drove off, crushing his daughter under the wheels.

Despite being rushed to the Beypazari State Hospital, medics declared her dead from massive internal injuries on 26th October.

Police said that the dad burst into tears when told of the news and a short while later he was arrested and detained by police investigating the incident.

He currently remains in custody.

The couple had only recently moved to the region in the hope of finding work after leaving their home in Mardin which is a city in south-eastern Turkey.
