A husband and wife have been jailed in China after staging a furious fight when he ordered a hooker from his hotel room and she turned up.

The shocked husband – named as Zhang in local media in the city of Xi’an, Shaanxi Province – had returned home for Chinese New Year after working away for months.

But it was so late at night that he checked into a hotel so he would not disturb his family.

Then, as he was trying to sleep, a card was slipped under his room door advertising ‘sexy women’, reported local media.

But he was furious when the sex worker he had ordered, turned out to be his wife, Shen.

An angry row broke out and the couple’s brawl was so loud that hotel staff called police, who arrested the pair.

Zhang was sentenced to eight days of administrative detention and had to pay a fine of CNY 400 (GBP 48).

His wife Shen was sentenced to a three-day detention and a fine of CNY 200 (GBP 24).

The incident caused shock and disbelief among netizens, but many still held out hope that the two would be able to work things out.
