An 11-year-old boy has drowned in a drain while trying to retrieve his lost kite.
The boy’s body was found by firefighters in the municipality of Guarulhos in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on 7th December.
Following a period of heavy rain in the area, the boy lost his kite and tried to retrieve it from the drain connected to a flooded stream.
The young lad was reportedly with a pal while looking for the kite in the area. At one point, while walking backwards without looking, the victim slipped and fell into the open drain.
The boy was heard shouting for help and his friend went to sound the alarm, eventually coming across a pizza deliveryman who came to the scene to lend a hand.
However, by the time the helper arrived at the well, the victim was already underwater and not visible.
Ultimately, the youngster could not save himself and his body was pulled out after washing into the stream at around 10pm, after the search was temporarily called off at around 7pm.
The fire brigade later identified the boy as 11-year-old Carlos Eduardo Pereira,
His body was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of Guarulhos on the morning of 8th December to undergo an autopsy.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
