Bizarre Moment Cooked Shrimp Glows Blue In The Dark

A woman has revealed how she was shocked to find a piece of shrimp from her sushi meal glowed blue when she turned off the lights.

The woman, identified as Ms Ding in local media in Jinan, in China’s eastern Shandong Province, said she had bought the pre-prepared meal from a local mall on 1st January.

The next morning, with only one light on, as she was about to eat the leftover sushi from the day before, she discovered that one of the shrimps emitted a blue light in the dim indoor environment.

In a video filmed by Ms Ding, the meat appears to be a normal piece of seafood.

But as she pulled it aside with her chopsticks and turned the lights off, it once again began glowing blue in the dark.

Ms Ding said she did not know the exact species of the shrimp in the sushi, as there was no clear indication on the menu where she bought it from. The sushi set only mentioned including shrimp meat.

She immediately stopped eating and threw it away, and her sister, concerned that someone might eat such suspicious food, called the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau to report the incident.

Meanwhile, the reason behind the strange event remains a mystery.

However, a similar incident had recently occurred in Thailand, when a mother and son discovered their sushi glowed in the dark, local media reported.

They consulted Professor Jessada Denduangboripant, Associate Professor of Biology at Chulalongkorn University, who explained that it could be due to inadequate storage temperature, leading to contamination by fluorescent bacteria.
