This is the moment a Mexican woman films a glowing ‘UFO’ hovering above the Popocatepetl volcano and claims she saw it coming out of the crater.

The UFO was filmed from a home in Plazas de Amalucan, close to the active Popocatepetl volcano, in the Mexican state of Puebla earlier this month.

The video was widely circulated on social media after journalist Arturo Luna shared it, saying that it was filmed by a family in Puebla State who claimed to have seen the same object whizzing out of the volcano’s crater before.

The footage, nearly six minutes long in the original post, shows a bright object hovering in the sky as the Popocatepetl volcano looms in the background.

The camerawoman, name not reported, said the UFO stayed in the area for several minutes and shot upwards to a great height in just a few seconds.

The video sparked debate on social media with some believing it was a bona fide UFO sighting while sceptics said it was a plane or a drone and that the perspective makes it appear as though it rose from within the volcano when it could have actually been much closer to the cameraperson.

No government body has offered an alternative account of the sighting and the debate rages on.

Facebook user ‘Octavio Angel Primero’ commented: “Yes, I saw it, at around 6pm. Pay close attention to the sky between 4pm and 6pm as UFOs pass by like silver balloons.”

‘Lenis Esquivel Suarez’ said: “What nonsense! It is probably a technical device used to measure the volcano’s activity.”
