A motorist driving an electric car was left baffled when a scooter driver hopped off his vehicle on a zebra crossing and then stood to attention saluting him.

The wacky incident happened in the city of Ningbo in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province where it was recorded by the car’s dashboard camera.

The motorist is seen driving up the zebra crossing but is forced to stop because a scooter driver is coming directly towards the vehicle.

The scooter driver then stops on the zebra crossing in front of the car before the man gets off awkwardly and lays it down the ground before coming over to stand in front of the car.

He then brings his feet together with his arms behind his back, and after a brief pause raises his right hand and salutes before then walking off camera and disappearing from view.

The bike, meanwhile, was left lying on the crossing and the electric car had to go backwards in order to weave around it.

The man, who was not named, but who was quite short, with thick, black spectacles appeared to have no intention of going back for it as he marched purposefully off into the distance.

It was unclear what the motivation was, and police have not confirmed whether they are investigating as they have not made any public comment on the incident.
