A young and beautiful law student suspected of stabbing her mother to death claims the killing was self-defence.
Camila Mayumi Kanayama, a 26-year-old law student, from Ponta Grossa, Brazil, allegedly confessed to killing her mother, Doraci do Rocio Kanayama, 58, when she was arrested after fleeing the murder scene.
Police reportedly caught Camila using a fake name and address at a local hospital.
The young woman was allegedly trying to get treated for injuries she received when she killed her mother in what she said was self-defence.
Camila became the prime suspect after escaping the scene of Doraci’s murder, who was discovered dead with at least seven stab wounds at her home on 9th February.
Doraci’s son reportedly found her dead body shortly after rushing home when he received a distress call from her, asking for help.
He found Camila at the house and the two allegedly fought before she fled.
Camila claimed it all began when her mother attacked her and shocked her with a stun gun.
Camila said: “It was in self-defense. […] She arrived, I said ‘could I have my cell phone back now?’ and she said ‘I don’t know, let’s talk’.
“And then she went and got a shock machine in her room and started giving me several laser shots (sic), I don’t know what it’s called. I said ‘stop, stop’ and she didn’t stop.
“Then I tried to take it from her, she grabbed a knife and I took the knife from her hand.”
Camila’s lawyer, Igor Jose Ogar, claimed the suspect has a long history of being abused by her mother, which resulted in her developing psychological disorders.
He said: “On the day before the crime, Camila sent messages to friends and her ex-boyfriend, describing that she had been threatened with death by her mother.
“She has several bruises on her body and has bandaged arms and legs, in addition to black eyes and apparent signs of strangulation on her neck.
“If Camila did not stand up for herself, she would have been killed.”
Camila’s legal team even released pictures of her bruises allegedly received by Doraci.
Camila was reportedly placed under custody and her cellphone, along with a charger, a tablet, two keys and BRL 550 (GBP 87), have been seized.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
