This former keyboardist of a renowned Argentine rock band has died after being found unconscious and suffering from hypothermia.

Musician Raul Pagano was found barely alive in an area of wasteland in the city of Pinamar and was pronounced dead at the Community Hospital of the city in the province of Buenos Aires in northeastern Argentina a short while later.

Doctors tried all they could to save him, but he was suffering from severe hypothermia and he died hours after arriving at the hospital.

Local media outlet ‘Minuto Uno’ report that temperatures in the city have dropped as low as -4 degrees Celsius in recent days.

Pagano was widely known and acclaimed in the Argentine rock scene playing with legendary band Bersuit Vergarabat and also sharing stages with prominent Argentine rock singers such as Fabiana Cantilo and Fito Paez, among others.

Local newspaper Infobae report Pagano’s addiction problems began keeping him away from his work, family, and friends until he ended up living on the streets of Pinamar.

Speaking to local news outlet Pinamar Diario, his ex-wife and mother of his two children Claudia regretted what had happened, assuring that “he always lived in his parallel reality. He was a very difficult person to help.”

Claudia and Pagano met two decades ago in Pinamar, where they fell in love and started a family. They ended up separating in 2004 due to the musician’s problems with drugs.

Claudia told Pinamar Diario: “When he lost his house he started hitting rock bottom. He could not sustain his musical life either.”

Pagano’s mother has asked the Pinamar Police to investigate the cause of the keyboard player’s death and the authorities have opened an investigation. They have begun searching the area where he was found but no details from the investigation have been revealed and it is unclear if foul play is suspected.

Claudia added to Pinamar Diario: “He had music in his veins, he was very intelligent and talented. Beyond all the bad times we went through, he left me the most important gift, his two children.”
