According to neighbours, two people arrived at the scene and one of them pulled out a gun and shot Garcia. He was shot three times and the fourth bullet hit his daughter the baby who was taken to the nearby Jose Alfredo Mendoza Olavarria Jamo hospital where she died from her injuries.

After the attack, the two alleged hitmen, reportedly of Venezuelan nationality, ran away from the area towards a motorbike which they escaped on.

According to police sources, the 35-year-old victim had left his house because he allegedly received a phone call from a woman named Giry Escarate Martinez, who went to the scene minutes later.

Police officers checked the area and arrested Zarate Chinchay, suspected of driving the motorbike away and Giry Escarate Martinez. Both of them were taken to the police station to give statements.

Local media reporting police sources said that the victim was working in construction and was allegedly linked to illegal payments which had been made to criminal organisations. The suspects might belong to a rival gang, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing.
