Stunning Miss Venezuala Amanda Dudamel, 23, was widely tipped to win the event held in New Orleans, USA, on 14th January.

Instead, she was named first runner-up, while the US contestant R’Bonney Gabriel won the crown.

Now President Madura is claiming the result was a “robbery”.

He said: “They stole our Miss Universe.

“Amanda Dudamel won on the street, well it can’t be a robbery like that, she is from Petare, she does community work there in Petare.”

A fashion designer and social activist Amanda is the daughter of former Venezuelan national football team coach Rafael Dudamel.

She was considered one of the favourites to win on Saturday, but in the end, the Texan fashion designer R’Bonney Gabriel, 28, took home the title.

Dudamel, however, gracefully accepted defeat, and took to Instagram to say: “I am HAPPY, satisfied and more grateful than ever!!! THANK YOU VENEZUELA, for accompanying me and allowing me to dream BIG! AND THANK YOU to all the people from different countries around the world who joined me on this path!”
