These images show an adorable rare baby deer as a wildlife expert fears the unusually rare creature will not survive long as its distinctive colouring will make it easy prey.

The stunning photos were taken by French businessman Alexandre Lacaille on a field near the commune of Commune of Camarasu, in Central Romania’s Cluj County after he spotted the rare deer.

In the photos, which have been widely shared on social media, the white baby deer, reportedly albino, can be seen standing in a field next to a regular deer. Lacaille exclusively told Central European News (CEN): ”I took the photos near Camarasu, on the road from Cluj Napoca to Reghin, in a field where I develop my agriculture businesses.

“I’m not a photographer, but when I saw the white deer I thought it was something extraordinary. I shared the photos with some friends from France and they confirmed that is a rarity. ”I think the baby deer was born in the area, as I see many wild deer around.”

Local wildlife expert Ovidiu Rosu had concerns about the white deer’s life expectancy, telling CEN: “I’ll tell you frankly it is the only case I have ever heard of in deer and I personally have not seen any other cases of albinism or leukosis, except for a few pigeons and a grizzled crow, but they are from urban areas where food is quite easy to find.

“In the wild, these changes are ‘counter-productive’ and bring a limited life expectancy, being easily traced by predators or prey.”
