Asprilla captioned the picture: “It is not all parties, on the road to recovery after surgery in my hand over here.

“I hope to be ready for the little match in San Andres with @nicolasgob, @aristigol09, @JJTrellezV and whoever else come along.”

“My hand got messed up after so much tweeting.”

By “so much tweeting” he is seemingly referring to the controversy generated after he admitted to being an ‘uribista’ in a Twitter post.

Uribista refers to supporters of the 31st Colombian president Alvaro Uribe who himself has been clouded in controversy as he is currently being investigated for alleged procedural fraud and bribery.

To show support for the former forward, some fans commented on the picture hoping Asprilla a fast recovery.

‘meiracarvalho1’ wrote: “What happened to you, my friend? May God look after you. My prayers go out for you.”

‘crissgeithner’ said: “Tino get well!!! We love you!!!”

‘tostaocqt’ wrote: “Speedy recovery.”

Asprilla played for Newcastle for two seasons, scoring nine goals in 48 Premier League appearances and nine goals in 11 European matches.
