This footage shows an angry motorist reversing into a father and his five-year-old son after they got into a heated argument because the child was playing in the street.

The incident took place in the city of Belem in the Metropolitan Region of north-eastern Brazil on Monday morning (27th September).

The footage shows a young boy on a bicycle in the middle of the street. His father can be seen standing nearby. Suddenly, a car tries to turn onto the street but it comes to a stop because the young boy is blocking its way.

Some heated words appear to be exchanged between the father and the motorist, with the vehicle then suddenly completing the turn and starting off down the street after the father has moved his son out of the way.

Out of frustration, the father appears to throw something at the vehicle, hitting its rear right side. Local media reports said it was a glass containing an alcoholic drink.

The vehicle comes to an abrupt stop before reversing at speed into both the father and the son, apparently running them over.

After the footage ends, the motorist fled the scene, according to media outlet G1.

Both father and the son, neither of whom have been named, were injured in the incident, and after receiving treatment in hospital for minor injuries, including the boy needing three stitches for a head injury, both were allowed home, according to the child’s mother, named as Glauci Teixeira.

She is quoted by G1 as saying: “There was an argument between them. My husband got angry and threw a glass at the driver. He admits he made a mistake, but if a person has the guts to run you over, we don’t know what they would do next time. If he was armed it could have been worse.”

The family have filed a report with the police and shared the video footage with them.

It is currently unclear if the police had made any arrests at the time of writing. According to the latest reports, they are working to identify the suspect. The police also said that anyone with information about the suspect should contact them.
