An out-of-control driver who plunged off a bridge onto a packed highway below amazingly survived the stunt without serious injuries.

Shocking CCTV footage of the crash in Saudi Arabia shows the motorist smashing through an overpass crash barrier at high speed.

The car can then be seen sailing through the air as it plummets onto the busy motorway below.

The accident was filmed at the Eastern Ring Road, in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, earlier this week.

According to local reports, the driver – whose name was not disclosed – lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the barrier on the city ring road, smashing through the railing and plummeting to the motorway below.

Amazingly, the driver reportedly sustained just moderate injuries in the accident and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the local authorities have opened an investigation.

In the footage, the car apparently crashes into the barrier side-on before sending metal debris onto the busy motorway below.

Meanwhile, the black car spins through the air and lands on a road divider below as a cloud of dust fills the air.

Many Saudi netizens called for motorists to use dashboard cameras in their vehicles, as traffic accidents are on the rise in the capital and it is easier for the authorities to investigate them with footage.

Other Saudi commentators said the local authorities should reconsider the barriers being used, as they rarely withstand collisions and numerous cars have plummeted off overpasses in recent times.
