This is the moment a love-cheat wife is forced to carry her husband on her shoulder as punishment for having an affair with a man behind his back.

The extraordinary punishment took place in the village of Devigarh located in the district of Jhabua in the northern Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and has reportedly led to the arrest of two people.

In the bizarre footage, a young woman is seen carrying a man in an orange shirt on her right shoulder.

As she buckles under his weight, the alleged adulteress is jeered at by dozens of villagers.

The video was posted on Twitter where it has been viewed 44,000 times.

According to local media, the young woman was accused of having an affair with a man from a different caste – a hereditary class system in Hindu society.

Reports said that the police are aware of the incident and have opened an investigation.

Police spokesman Vineet Jain told local media that two people have been arrested so far.

He said: “Some people in a group disrespected a woman in Devigarh, Jhabua. A case has been registered against all of them and two people have been arrested so far.”
