This is the moment a fox is found frozen solid in the standing position after temperatures dropped to minus 20 in the Turkish region.

The frozen fox was found outside the city of Erzurum in the north-eastern Turkish province of the same name.

The dead animal was apparently looking for food on the snow-filled plain in freezing temperatures when it died and remained frozen on the spot.

Apparently exposed to the elements after temperatures plummeted to around minus 17 degrees Celsius, the fox was found by a passerby who filmed its lifeless body with his phone the following morning.

In the footage, the man is seen wading through thick snow to walk around the animal, frozen to the spot.

He walks around the fox, with snow resting on top of its head and body, and films its pained face.

The animal apparently died in suffering in the cold and was frozen in the standing position when the cameraperson came across it.

Meanwhile, the regional meteorology directorate has warned that further frost and haze are to be expected in the coming days during the night and early mornings.

Turkish media reported that the animal was actually a wolf, however, images clearly show an animal that more resembles a fox than a wolf.
