This is the moment a newborn baby girl is found abandoned in a field by a local resident hours before her presumed mum is arrested for attempted murder.
The baby girl was found in a pasture in a rural part of the municipality of Emilianopolis in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on the morning of Friday, 8th October.
On the afternoon of the same date, the police arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder.
The baby was found by local resident Tulio Manfrim Redivo, who had been told by a boy who lives next to the pasture he heard crying.
Redivo found the baby girl wrapped in a bloodstained cloth and with the umbilical cord close by.
He called the police, and the baby was taken to hospital in the city of Presidente Prudente roughly 50 minutes away by car.
In hospital, the baby girl was cleaned, fed and determined to be in good health.
The presumed mother was arrested after the police received information that there were bloodstains in the garden of a nearby residence.
The young woman who lived there denied any guilt, telling the officers she was on her period.
Bloodstained clothes and a sheet were reportedly found in her bedroom during a search.
During questioning, the young woman repeatedly contradicted herself before finally confessing to abandoning the baby, according to local media.
She told the police that no one had known she was pregnant, and she said that she was already a mother and was unable to raise another child.
She was charged with attempted murder.
Her child is to remain under state care for the time being, and will soon be put up for adoption.
