A married father of three who sold his house and moved to a new flat to start enjoying life after retiring earlier in the week has died after he lost the keys to the second-floor property – and fell to his death after he tried to climb inside from the third-floor flat above.
The former teacher and poet apparently became impatient whilst waiting for a locksmith after he locked himself out of his flat and fell to his death when he tried to lower himself from his neighbour’s third-floor balcony onto his own.
Resat Coskun, 53, had only retired a few days earlier and purchased a flat on Osman Bektas Street in the district of Palandoken in the north-eastern Turkish province of Erzurum from which he locked himself out on 25th August)
Resat called the locksmith who told him he would come and unlock the door but he was going to take a while to arrive.
The dad then took matters into his own hands and decided that he wouldn’t wait for the locksmith so he walked out onto his neighbour’s third-floor balcony and tried to lower himself down to his own flat.
Local news site Haberturk reports that Resat had used a strap whilst climbing down to keep himself attached to the side of the building.
However, the knot on the strap at some point loosened and Resat fell from the third floor, dying moments after he hit the pavement below.
Several witnesses saw him fall and called emergency services who were unable to do anything for Resat by the time they arrived.
Omer Kaya, Resat’s relative, told local news site Hurriyet: “Resat was a teacher who retired from Anadolu Imam Hatip High School a short time ago. He was married with three children.”
He added: “He sold his house in the district and recently bought a new house in the city centre. They were going to move there on Saturday (28th August) but clearly, it was not meant to be.”
According to Rersat’s biography on a website named ‘Biyografya’ he had spent time researching Islamic mysticism and published four poetry books along with three short stories and a long essay.
Resat’s body has been taken to the Erzurum Forensic morgue for an autopsy.
