This dog has spent the last three years sitting on top of the grave of a deceased toddler it had a strong bond with.

The photos were taken in the commune of Tan Thanh located in the rural district of Tan Thanh in the Vietnamese province of Long An.

The female dog named Mino was adopted by Ms Nguyen Thi Ut and her family and it soon developed a strong bond with her two-year-old grandson Kiet.

Sadly, little Kiet drowned three years ago in a tragic accident just six months after Mino had been adopted by the family.

Kiet was buried behind the family house three days after passing away and Mino has spent the last three years standing guard on his grave from morning to night, rain or shine, with the exception of very humid afternoons.

Ms Nguyen, 58, spent the first month chasing the dog away thinking it was not appropriate to have the animal on her grandson’s grave, but noticed Mino kept returning to the same place and eventually allowed it to continue.

She then realised that Mino was no regular dog and that she would even leave fruits or treats she had been given next to Kiet’s grave.

Ms Nguyen decided to build her a small shed made of bamboo sticks and leaves to protect her from the harsh sun and rain some months ago.

However, about two weeks ago, a kind benefactor who got word of the heartwarming story decided to donate a small sum of money which Ms Nguyen used to purchase a kennel with a well-built roof and metal base.

The dog now has sufficient shelter to spend his days next to his beloved toddler pal’s grave.
