This 20-year-old mother and her 39-year-old partner have been arrested for allegedly abusing the woman’s three-year-old daughter who had over 60 blows to her body and died from an injury to her head.
Mother Valeria Veronica Miranda, 20, and the girl’s step-father Carlos Ruben Erbin, 39, said the girl named Nahiara had fallen down the stairs at their house in the municipality of Los Menucos in the province of Rio Negro in southern Argentina.
Reports state that doctors found the girl dead when the family called them while they were in an area in the countryside called Las Mochas on 7th April.
Local prosecutor Andres Nelli told local media: “They did not take her to a hospital, they called an ambulance when they realised she was not waking up. This is how they ended the life of a girl who was unable to take care of herself.”
The mother reportedly said her daughter had fallen down the stairs a few days before while the forensic exam revealed the girl had an injury to her head and more than 60 blows to her body as well as several burns and a fractured rib.
Veronica Miranda said in a video conference with judge Maria Gadano that Erbin used to beat the girl but she could not defend her because she was also abused by her partner.
The mother is reportedly accused of homicide aggravated by the fact that she is a close relative while the man has been accused of femicide.
Local media reported Veronica Miranda is under home arrest while Erbin is in preventive prison.
Local authorities are reportedly investigating the case.
