This footage – seen nearly four million times in 24 hours – shows the aftermath of a deadly killer wasp attack which left three people dead and five of their relatives injured as they left a funeral service.

According to officials in the county of Xingye in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, eight members of the Pang family were attacked by a swarm of wasps as they departed their relative’s burial site on 16th November.

The eight adults – all men – were aged between 45 and 87, and are believed to have been on foot when they encountered the aggressive wasp swarm near their nest in the village of Tangdu.

Viral footage now widely viewed on social media shows some of the surviving members paralysed in pain on the ground while being tended to by paramedics.

Reports said a 70-year-old victim died of anaphylaxis – a severe allergic reaction to the stings – before the groups were taken to Xingye People’s Hospital.

At the facility, two more, aged 60 and 87, succumbed to fatal anaphylactic shock.

The five surviving relatives were taken to the larger Yulin First People’s Hospital for further treatment.

One remains in serious condition, reports said.

The local fire service, together with forestry experts, later removed the wasp nest after the incident.

They are still investigating the case and are providing the necessary support to the Pang family, a statement by the county municipal government said.

The wasp species that attacked the funeral attendees has not been disclosed.
