A 20-year-old man has stabbed his young wife to death when he caught her in bed with a lover before accidentally burning down their home when he set fire to the man’s coat in anger.

The incident took place on Respublikanskaya Street in the city of Severodvinsk located in the north-western Russian region of Arkhangelsk Oblast when firefighters were called to the couple’s home.

Firefighters discovered the body of a young woman that appeared to have multiple stab wounds and the local authorities launched an investigation, according to reports.

The victim’s husband, who was hospitalised with carbon monoxide poisoning caused by the fire, was quizzed by the police and he admitted to killing his 21-year-old wife, according to local media.

He explained that he arrived home late at night and found his wife cheating on him with another man.

The husband claimed that he hit his wife’s lover several times as he left the house.

When the married couple was alone, the 20-year-old allegedly stabbed his wife and then set fire to her lover’s coat after spotting it in a room.

He went outside to smoke a cigarette and when he went indoors, he saw the house was ablaze, according to his police statement.

That was the last thing he said he can remember before waking up in hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to local media, the suspect has a four-year-old child with the victim who was staying with relatives on the night the incident took place.

The police investigation is ongoing.
