Woman Wins USD 200,000 After Mum-In-Law Chose Ticket In Her Favourite Colour

A woman from has won GBP 165,478 on a red lottery scratch-off after her mother-in-law picked it because she liked its colour.

Lucky Amanda Wood – from Concord, North Carolina state, USA – said she only bought the Ruby Red ticket because her in-law said it was her favourite shade.

She said in a statement obtained by Newsflash on Tuesday (7th February): “I gave her the money and she chose the ticket for me.”

But after they checked the ticket and realised it was a winner, Amanda said she could hardly believe it.

She said: “I was in shock. You never see that amount of money.”

She and her mum-in-law were shopping when they decided to try out their luck and settled on a USD 5 (GBP 4.13) Ruby Red 7 ticket.

The pair collected their winnings from the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters on 6th February.

They took home USD 142,501 (GBP 117,838) after state and federal taxes.

Amanda said it would be used to pay bills and home repairs.

North Carolina Education Lottery said: “Ruby Red 7’s debuted in December with six USD 200,000 [GBP 165,478] prizes.

“Three USD 200,000 [GBP 165,478] prizes remain to be claimed.”
