This is the moment a young woman desperately wades against strong currents along a flooded street before suddenly being sucked underwater and disappearing.

Reports said that the woman was sucked into the sewer system in Jorge Almada in the city of Culiacan in the north-western Mexican state of Sinaloa and the local authorities have yet to find her.

The region has reportedly been battered by heavy storms and flash floods in recent days.

In the footage, the woman is seen wading through the waist-high water to apparently join two people hanging onto a half-submerged car.

A bin bag passes her in the flooded street and the victim turns around. While either trying to reach the bag or the car behind her, she suddenly disappears from view.
