This is the moment a young woman abandons a newborn baby boy outside a house on the pavement and runs off.

The incident took was filmed by a CCTV camera in Teluk Gong in the sub-district of Penjaringan located in the Indonesian capital Jakarta and posted on Facebook where it has been seen 28,000 times.

In the footage, a young woman in a blue top is seen walking along the pavement while holding a baby.

She looks around and carefully places the newborn on the ground before running away without taking a second look.

A 22-year-old neighbour called Sihab Mahajaya said that a bystander first spotted something unusual on the pavement at around 10 am.

Mahajaya and several other residents went to check the bundle and discovered that it was a newborn boy wearing a yellow jumpsuit and hat.

He told local media: “We then realised that it was a baby. The tot was lying on his back and was not crying.

“This is a quiet area. It happened when everyone was working.

Mahajaya said that they took the baby to a nearby health centre after discovering him while some other residents reported the incident to the police.

Meanwhile, the local authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the alleged abandonment.
