This 106-year-old grandmother who survived both World Wars and is Slovenia’s eldest resident has beaten coronavirus.

Angelina Ogulin contracted COVID-19 in a nursing home in the city of Metlika in southwestern Slovenia and was treated in the home with staff keeping her family informed of her condition on the phone.

Her daughter-in-law, who has not been named in reports, said: “Every time the phone rang, our hearts would die. But, a few days ago, the voice on the phone informed me that there was nothing to fear, and my mother was doing well and was in the best shape among all the people in this house who had fallen ill”.

Her nephew Bostjan Ogulin said: “We got really scared when people from the elderly home informed us that she was infected. We hope that her case will inspire other people to be positive and let them see that this virus is beatable”.

He added that that family is planning a celebration after they reunite when lockdown ends.

Zalka Klemencic, the Secretary of the Metropolitan Red Cross told local media: “You know, Angelina Ogulin is a very positive personality, she looks at everything from the good side. She’s a real village woman, I like spending time with her”.
