A dramatic surveillance camera video shows the moment a man from the USA purposely drives his pickup truck inside a police department’s lobby to get attention.
Nathan David Chacon, 45, was arrested after he intentionally slammed his silver 2007 Chevrolet Silverado into the Grand Junction Police Department in Colorado, USA.
It is unclear what his grievance was that he felt was not getting properly dealt with when he decided to take drastic action at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, 25th January 2023.
External and internal CCTV footage shows the moment Chacon completely demolishes the police department’s lobby before a confused cop approaches and pulls a gun on him.
The 45-year-old man then gets out of the truck and complies without resistance when the officer asks him to put his hands up in the air.
As the cop holds Chacon at gunpoint, he then lays flat on the floor before a group of officers arrives at the lobby and arrest him.
Detective Bryce Raber said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “When I arrived in the lobby, I was completely shocked and taken aback by the state of the lobby.
“Nathan’s truck had come to rest against the southwest corner wall of the lobby.
“The south waIl was now pushed several feet into the offices of the PSTs.
“Miraculously, this wall stopped Nathan’s truck and did not allow it to go any further into the offices where numerous employees were working and going about their general daily duties.”
Following the arrest, Chacon was charged with attempted murder and assault in the first degree, attempted vehicular homicide-reckless driving and attempted vehicular assault.
Additionally he also received charges for criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, after which he was cleared by paramedics and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility.
The Grand Junction Police Department said: “Multiple employees were in the area at the time of the crash, but no injuries occurred.”
Raber explained that the area where Chacon crushed his vehicle contained benches for citizens waiting to report a crime or obtain assistance from the police department.
He added: “These benches were now destroyed.
“Luckily no one had been utilizing the benches or was in the lobby at the time of this crash, which would be normal activity on a weekday around 12.30pm.”
Damages were estimated to be somewhere between USD 100,000 (GBP 80,671) and USD 1,000,000 (GBP 806,710).
The department said: “This is an active investigation and there is no further information at this time.”
