A headmistress in Mexico has been stopped from entering her school by parents worried she has the coronavirus after she was snapped picking up her son from the airport after he jetted in from China.

Parents of pupils at Vicente Guerrero primary school in the municipality of Tetelpa in the city of Zacatepec in the Mexican state of Morelos gathered at the school gates to prevent headmistress Patricia Coria from entering the building.

Reports said that Coria picked up her son Elias Alejandro on 1st February at Mexico City International Airport after he flew home from China.

The headmistress’ son reportedly told local media that he had not gone through a medical check when he arrived at the airport to guarantee he was not infected with the coronavirus.

Elias Alejandro, who was in China to study Mandarin, said to local media: “There are no controls here at Mexico Airport.”

Coria also told local media: “I just wanted him here, I did not mind if I had to leave everything aside I just wanted him here.”

Parents at the school reportedly first gathered this Sunday at the school’s gate to demand the headmistress be temporally suspended until she is checked by doctors and stop her if she tried to enter the school.

An unnamed mother at the school’s gate told local media: “We demand that she is put into quarantine in order to prevent her from having contact with other people.”

Reports said that the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) gave in to the parents’ pressure and sent Coria on temporary leave.
