A Marvel movie producer who was swindled out of GBP 2.5 million by fraudsters in Turkey has told police how she was conned in a cryptocurrency sting.
US film tycoon Lori Etta Taub was the producer for Marvel spin-off ‘Cloak And Dagger’ and the award-winning ‘All American’ TV series about a black high school football player moving to Beverly Hills.
But she has told police how she lost millions when a Nigerian fraudster living in Turkey posed as an investment adviser on social media.
Taub sent more than USD 3 million in cryptocurrency to the conman she knew as Alex Quinn, report Turkish media.
She was expecting the money – paid over the course of three months – to be returned.
But when she realised she had been conned, she flew to Istanbul, where she filed a complaint with the police.
They discovered that Alex Quin did not exist, and the person she had been speaking to was a Nigerian citizen living in the city named Cyril Amechi Enebeli, who has been arrested.
Three other suspects were also arrested and named in Turkish media as Recep Akcay and Dogukan Delibas and Nuray Bakar.
Police said that after raids on properties organised by the Istanbul Cyber Crime Fighting Team, they had confiscated a large number of digital assets and some money.
In total, Taub has 30 credits as a producer going back to the early 1990s. She currently lives in Northridge, California, USA.
