This Chinese university student has been expelled for dismembering and eating stray dogs on campus and sharing the images online.

According to local media, student Zhou Jingkai had been posting photos and videos of tortured dogs on the internet while attending the Chengdu University of Technology in the city of Chengdu located in the southern Chinese province of Sichuan.

Disturbing images show dismembered body parts, cooked dog meat and one tied-up pooch is seen suspended upside down from a broom handle.

Local media said the social media posts caused an outcry and Jingkai had received threatening messages online, however he always claimed that he had downloaded the material and never killed a dog.

The university heads were alerted to the incident and, along with the local police, an investigation determined that the student had indeed tortured dogs, according to reports.

In a statement, the university strongly criticised the student and confirmed that they had expelled him.

PETA Asia press officer Keith Guo told AsiaWire: “We are pleased to see that the university expelled the dangerous individual from the campus.

“As the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs supports the animal welfare act, we are hoping the next National People’s Congress will pass the law to protect millions of stray animals from being tortured by these violent, dangerous individuals.”

There are currently no nationwide laws in China that explicitly prohibit the mistreatment of animals.
