These images show Ukrainian troops using a mounted automatic grenade launcher against the Russian enemy.
The footage shows Ukrainian soldiers setting up the mounted automatic grenade launcher, reportedly a Soviet-designed AGS-17, in a snowy landscape before they are seen firing it, presumably at Russian positions.
The images were obtained from the Luhansk Separate Territorial Defence Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Tuesday, 21st February, along with a statement saying: “The Luhansk Separate Territorial Defence Brigade uses rack-mounted automatic grenade launchers to hit the enemy.
“Automatic grenade launcher AGS-17 30mm rack-mounted automatic grenade launcher is designed to destroy the manpower and firepower of the enemy located outside shelters, in open trenches (trenches) and behind natural folds of the terrain. Effective range of fire is 1,700 metres.
“After the grenade leaves the barrel at a distance of 10-30 metres from the muzzle, the detonator is cocked, and when it meets the target (obstacle), the detonator is activated, causing the detonation of the grenade’s bursting charge.
“As a result of the explosion of the bursting charge, the spring (fragmentary jacket) and the body of the grenade are crushed into fragments that affect the enemy’s manpower.”
The images were also relayed by the Regional Directorate of Territorial Defence Forces ‘East’ of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Wednesday, 22nd February, along with a statement saying: “What is AGS-17 and how to use it?
“These weapons are well known in each unit of the Luhansk Separate Brigade of Territorial Defence.
“The subtleties of use were told to us by warriors who have already beaten a bunch of orcs with the help of this deadly toy!
“Next, we trample the enemy and bring Victory closer!”
Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February 2022 in what the Kremlin is still calling a “special military operation”. Today marks the 365th day of the full-scale war.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 23rd February 2023, Russia had lost about 145,850 personnel, 3,350 tanks, 6,593 armoured combat vehicles, 2,352 artillery units, 471 multiple launch rocket systems, 244 air defence systems, 299 warplanes, 287 helicopters, 2,029 drones, 873 cruise missiles, 18 warships, 5,215 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 228 units of special equipment.
Russia has claimed that its casualties have been much lower but provides infrequent updates on its latest figures.
