This is the moment three baby turtles are released to the sea after they were bought by someone who intended to eat the eggs but forgot about them and they ended up hatching.

The incident was shared on Twitter by Dr Chen Pelf Nyok who co-founded the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia located in the district of Kemaman in the Malaysian state of Terengganu.

Dr Chen wrote: “Somebody bought some sea turtle eggs during Ramadan and forgot to eat them. Two months later, three hatchlings hatched and they were surrendered to us for release.”

She added: “Turtles will hatch and survive guys, if we only give them a chance.”

According to local media, the unnamed person had bought several turtle eggs to eat, but stashed them away and forgot about them.

It is unclear what condition they were kept in, but it was apparently sufficient for three baby turtles to develop and hatch.

The hatchlings were subsequently passed on to Dr Chen who arranged for them to be released into the sea when they were fit and ready.

In the footage, the cute turtles are seen flapping their way to the shoreline before being swept into the sea by the rolling waves.

Earlier this year, the Pahang State Government released a statement reminding citizens that the sale and distribution of turtles and their eggs is outlawed nationwide.
